Protection against the hidden dangers

BEBE PIO

tHE bRIEF

To design and develop an electrical product to assist with the sterilisation of baby bottles, dummies and soothers with a focus on convenience, sustainability, mobility and safety

Additional considerations

This brief was set in the wake of Covid, provoking further discussion on how to develop a product that can adequately sterilise common harmful germs such as Staphylococcus Aureus and Escherichia Coli as well as prevent against more complex diseases with everchanging variants like SARS, in order to protect one of the most vulnerable social groups with a weakened immune system.

The Solution: Making Life Work

Bebe Pio's form was inspired from the collapsible cup brand, Stojo for the effortless way in which it is compact, space saving, lightweight, durable, easy, can be conveniently used anywhere at any time and attached to any stroller or baby bag.

Pio's functionality is down to a circular array of UV-C LEDs which have a light frequency capable of killing 99.9% of all bacteria and is found to be effective in other proven technologies used to sterilise hospitals and public transport zones.

There are two arrays of light, one outer ring to accommodate external sterilisation of the main touch points of a baby bottle and a smaller inner array of lights in which to ensure the inside of the baby bottle is sterilised from any old bacterial residue from liquids and spit spread germs.

It is able to accommodate the sterilisation of a baby bottle and soother accessories, through a screw on compartment with a clear quartz glass base to allow the UV-C light to penetrate through and continue the sterilisation process in full.

To activate a sterilising cycle, simply press the full moon beneath the cloud which will display a blue light on the half moon segment to the left, when the cycle is finished the half moon segment to the right will glow red. When switching off, if not already activated by holding the main 'On' button, the Bebe Pio will turn off after 2 minutes of inactivity.

Able to kill all bacteria in less than 15 minutes, its sleek understated design offers exceptional quality and performance without compromising on convenience.
